CHARACTER INFO
• Character Name: Jessica Hamby
• Character Age: 17 year old when she turned. Vampire age is about 3 weeks old.
• Character Canon: True Blood
• Canon Point: Season 2, Episode 12, when Jessica fed on a unwitting trucker
• Character History: Wiki link• Character Personality: Provide information about their personality, both negative and positive aspects — with three of each. Give examples of how they've behaved this way. You do not need to provide an essay, but please submit enough to give a feel for the character.
— Positive Trait: Empathy - Jessica is incredibly empathic to those who have a hard time, reflectiving back to her human life when she endured emotional, physical, and religious abuse. It gave her friendship in the Stackhouse family, particularly Jason. She even taught Jason how to go through panic attacks as she helped her mother’s in the past. Her empathy allows her to have actual friends, something she really didn’t have before her turning due to her father controlling her every move.
— Positive Trait: Adaptive - While severally lacking life experience, Jessica makes up for it for a talent for fast learning. When given the chance and the support, Jessica thrives in any skill thrown at her. When her Maker Bill Compton taught her how to glamour - a hypnosis power vampires have - she thrived under his attention. So much so that she was able to glamour two people at a time (something even 1,000 year old vampires couldn’t do) and mentally scrambled one man’s mind much to Bill’s annoyance. With a little care and some positive reinforcement Jessica thrives in any skill she can put her mind to.
— Positive Trait: Dedication - Despite her lack of experience in both vampire and human matters, Jessica is ride or die. Through out the show she has her empathy to earn friends, and she will make it her personal goal to help and protect them, even risking her life for them. This dedication follows to people she have wronged as well. When she accidentally killed most of Andy Bellefluer’s daughters due to her bloodlust she was filled with immediate grief and regret, and risked her life to protect the last surviving daughter even though she knew she won’t ever be forgiven.
— Negative Trait: Naïveté - In her human life Jessica was sheltered from the world from her parents, leaving the house only for church and clarinet lessons. In her new life as a vampire, Bill was neglectful, leaving her to the care of older vampires who did not have her best interests in mind and taking her back to Bill after being fed up with Jessica’s bratty behavior. Even after returned to Bill’s care, Jessica was back to a similar lifestyle of being stuck insiders his home, unable to feed except on TruBlood (a drink of synthetic blood which Jessica despises). Different yet similar situations that led her to walk into situations where common knowledge would have saved her. She didn’t even know vampires can walk into other vampires’ homes without permission, much to her chagrin. Throughout the show her naive nature eventually falls away, but she still explores new relationships with a earnestness that is almost childlike.
— Negative Trait: Bloodlust - As a general rule, most newborn vampires do not survive their first year due to difficulty of controlling their bloodlust. Jessica is very young, almost several weeks old at her canon point, and she already bitten her boyfriend’s mother from a mixture of anger and hunger, and later on kill a trucker out of emotional turmoil. This bloodlust will make her feral and nearly impossible to control.
— Negative Trait: Temper - Jessica has poor control of her temper. Most of it stems from her background from an abusive family, lashing out at her mother and little sister who were also victims. She cannot stand to be ignored or abused, and due to her vampiric nature she often reacts violently. In some instances, she takes in certain glee in scaring - or worse, feed on - those who treat her badly.
• Character Skills: Does your character have any particular skills that might help them in game? Maybe they have knowledge of firearms, carpentry, fishing, maybe foraging or how to make clothes. List them here in bullet-point form:
• Fangs: She has retractable fangs that can very easily tear off someone’s throat.
• That’s it, she has no skills, this girl is fucked sideways to Sunday.
• Character Inventory: Characters may bring THREE items with them. These can be items a character owns, but might not happen to have on their person when they are brought to this world. They may bring tools they may already own to help them survive, or cherished personal items. The clothes they're wearing do not count as a slot, but if they have really good winter coat at home, that would count as a slot.
— ITEM ONE: A bottle of TruBlood, flavor O-negative
— ITEM TWO: Her cellphone (which she stole from a limo driver)
— ITEM THREE: Another bottle of TruBlood, flavor B-positive
• Important Notes: Jessica lacks all powers her vampire self possess. She has her fangs, and she’s still undead so she lacks a heartbeat, brain activity, and lacks the ability to expel waste, but can feel the cold. She also doesn’t need to breathe except for speaking, but this will mean she will sink faster into waters and can drown as a result. Human food is incredibly disgusting to her.
As far as daylight issues are concerned, for gameplay issues I will have Jessica able to walk in daylight if it is cloudy enough to cover the sky. Canon-wise this will mean she won’t have the bleeds (a condition vampires get when they are sheltered from the sun but not asleep, and start to bleed from their ears and tear ducts), but she will feel physically weak so she won’t enjoy be out as she wanted to her. Her life sucks!
• Writing Samples: Players must provide TWO prose writing samples. These both must be log threads. Due to the fact there is no network in this game, 'network' or 'texting'-style threads will not be accepted.
